Welcome to JustREAD!
 JustREAD is a non-profit literacy organization that teaches basic reading and writing skills, one-on-one, to 6th through 12th graders who (for a variety of reasons) did not learn these essential skills in earlier grades. Consequently, they cannot keep up in their classes, struggle to pass the mandated California Exit Exam or graduate. Often JustREAD is their last opportunity to gain these reading and writing skills.
In 2005, JustREAD began providing tutoring services for Alta Vista High School students, a continuation school in Mountain View, then expanded to include students at Mountain View High School, where students now receive credits toward graduation. In 2008, JustREAD expanded again to provide tutoring services for students at Crittenden Middle School in Mountain View.
JustREAD's tutoring program is unique because its specially designed phonics-based curriculum has the flexibility to provide a customized tutoring plan for each student, regardless of his or her grade level of reading. No other tutoring program offers this unique curriculum.
Volunteer tutors are vital to the success and cost-effectiveness of our program. A large cadre of dedicated community volunteers is trained to provide one-on-one tutoring sessions to students free of charge. Many others provide generous pro bono services and in-kind gifts.
JustREAD takes the fear out of reading and writing. We believe that reading success holds the promise for struggling students to become lifelong learners and productive citizens.
