WHAT IS JustREAD?

JustREAD is a non-profit literacy program that provides one-on-one tutoring to middle and high school students, many of whom are at risk of dropping out of school.

Our three primary goals are to:

  • Improve the reading and writing skills of struggling students
  • Build community by training volunteers to serve as tutors
  • Spearhead the development of similar reading centers

JustREAD was founded at the encouragement of retired Santa Clara County Justice, Judge Leonard Edwards, who recognized that many of the young people he saw in his courtroom had inadequate reading skills, did not have jobs, and were at risk of dropping out of school.

JustREAD does not discriminate on the basis of race, religious creed, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, handicap, disability or age in any of its policies, procedures or practices.  This non-discriminatory policy covers access to and employment in JustREAD's programs and activities.

JustREAD is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
